[The Impact and Value of an Arts-Based Project About the Patient-Parent-Clinician Relationship in European Reference Network CRANIO]
A strong patient-clinician relationship is essential for quality of care, yet improving this connection remains challenging for patients with a rare congenital craniofacial condition and their parents. This article explores FACE ME, an arts-based project designed to bridge the gap between patients, parents, and clinicians. Developed by two visual artists, the project involved reorganizing a surgeon’s home with three patients, three surgeons, and one parent, resulting in two artworks. Reflexive thematic analysis of film recordings, photos, conversations, and survey results revealed four key themes: exchanging trust, seeing each other as individuals, imagining oneself in the other’s position, and teamwork. FACE ME broke down barriers, fostered mutual understanding, and initiated new conversations, reflections, and actions toward a stronger patient-clinician relationship.
